Tokyo Fishing

I was so excited to finally make it to this day in our trip since we both LOVE fishing!!

Two of our friends took us to Okutama for a day of trout fishing. The weather report said it was supposed to be really cold there so our friends’ wives decided not to make the trek. But luckily when we got there it was really sunny and not too cold at all.

After a 15 minute walk we made our way to the fishing area…

Since it was a cold spring day it was not crowded at all.

The cost was about $30 a person and it came with fishing tackle and bait. There were different types of pricing but I’m not sure what they were for since the signs were all in kanji.

In Hawaii I normally use shrimp or squid (that are dead!) for bait. So these squirmy little guys were a little new. If you are eating while reading this, look away now because here was the bait that we used…

With that bait, it wasn’t long before we all started to get bites…

One of the best parts about this place is that when it’s lunch time you can take your trout up to the kitchen where they cook it up for you!

Tokyo Fishing Menu

Here is a menu of side dishes and drinks you can have with your fish. We just ordered some onigiri since we had brought some other snacks and drinks with us.

After lunch we still had some time before catching our train back…so we went back outside and did a little more fishing! This batch of fish went back home with our friends for them to have for dinner.

On the map below I put a blue marker on the fishing area. It’s a bit of a train ride to get there, but if you go in the morning (starting from somewhere like Shinjuku) the trains are really empty and comfortable.
