If you’re interested in going to Japan during winter, this time of year (August – October) is a great time to start planning.
One of the best things about traveling to Japan during Christmas time (besides the cool weather), is the numerous Christmas lights displays! In Japan they call these “illuminations” and you can find them all over Japan during December.
Since we were in Chiba for the day, we went to see the Christmas lights at Tokyo Doitsu Mura (Tokyo German Village). This German theme park offers a wonderful illumination display during winter.
There were tunnels of lights we walked through.
Many decorated buildings, and huge fields of lights incorporating creative designs.
Also fun was a big ferris wheel that we rode to get a birds eye view of the whole glittering area.
After walking through the displays outside we were pretty cold. But luckily there was also an indoor area with decorations and a gift shop where we could warm up a bit.
This was a great way to enjoy the Christmas season in Japan!
