Toshogu Shrine Roof

After our nice peaceful walk, we were back among the crowds of people all checking out the see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil monkeys…

We also had a good time admiring the beautiful architecture and wood work.

Getting to the top of the Toshogu Shrine was quite a walk, but it really was a sight to see along the way. The shrine is made up of 55 main structures that cover 80,000 sq. meters. Needless to say we were a little winded at the end of the walk but thankfully our friends were prepared and we got our energy back with some Aomori apple juice!

After a quick break we headed back down to the town area in search of some lunch!

Meiji Jingu

After taking the JR Yamanote line to Harajuku Station, we took a leisurely walk around Meiji Jingu.

How to get here:
We took the JR Yamanote Line to Harajuku Station. From there we walked south for about 30 seconds then made a right turn to walk over the bridge and turned right again up toward Meiji Jingu.

Miyajima Ferry

On this day we took a comfortable ferry ride over to Miyajima. The town area was nice, not too crowded at all…

Well actually there were a lot of deer…

After looking around the shrine, we got some lunch on the island. We wanted to try some of the specialties of the area so we tried the anago (salt water eel) which was tasty…

And a half order of okonomiyaki which made a great snack on the ferry ride back to Hiroshima.
