Yokohama Port Museum

Yokohama Port Museum is made up of several different areas. The permanent exhibition has two zones, “Port of Yokohama History Zone” and “Port of Yokohama Rediscovery Zone”.

There were many interesting things to look at, but some of my favorites were the model ships.

I really appreciated the great detailed work!

There are a couple ways to get here from Tokyo, but the way that we got here was to catch the JR Yamanote Line to Shibuya station. From there we caught the Toyoko MinatoMirai Line to MinatoMirai station in Yokohama. The Yokohama Port Museum is a 5 to 7 minute leisurely walk from the station.

Nippon Maru Yokohama

The Nippon Maru was built in 1930 as a training ship for cadets. During its fifty four years of service, it logged 1,830,000 km in total travel distance.

For those interested in ships, you can take a tour inside of the historic Nippon Maru. On the day that we were here though, the line was really long. So instead we decided to visit the Yokohama Port Museum located right next to the ship.

Dockyard Garden, Yokohama

After the observatory and window shopping, we headed to Dockyard Garden for lunch.

There was a decent selection of restaurants, but being that it was around noon there were lines to get into all of them! We finally decided on one called Capricciosa where we shared some pizza and pasta.

Outside of Dockyard Garden there was some after lunch entertainment. The bundled up audience seemed to be really enjoying that guy in the turquoise shirt.

Next on our to do list in Yokohama? The Nippon Maru and Yokohama Port Museum!

Landmark Plaza, Yokohama

After enjoying the observatory at Landmark Tower, we descended back down to do a little window shopping. Adjoining Landmark Tower are Landmark Plaza and Queen’s Tower.

Although it was nice to walk around, we didn’t buy anything here. Many of the stores were places we could find back at home like Gap, Banana Republic, and Coach (with our prices in Hawaii being much cheaper).

Really interesting were the places around here that reminded us of Hawaii like Mauka Meadows Kona Coffee Garden, a store called Lahaina Hawaiian Jewelry, and Anna Miller’s (we occasionally eat at the location in Aiea, HI).
